China unveils record five "friendlies" for 2008 Olympics



    "Beibei," - the fish - symbolizes surplus and prosperity
    "Jingjing," -  the giant panda represents Beijing's desire to protect the environment
    "Huanhuan" - symbolizes "the Olympic flame and the passion of sport"
    "Yingying," -  the Tibetan antelope, and
    "Nini," the swallow, represent health and good luck.

    Strung together, the five names spell out "Beijing huanying ni" — "Beijing welcomes you" —
    spreading a message of “friendship to the children of the world”.

   

China completed construction of the world's largest dam on May 20, 2006.  The Three Gorges, which consist of Qutang, Wuxia and Xiling Gorges, extend for about 200 km on the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze, become very popular among American vistors for its beautiful natural landscapes >>>


The Silk Road has more than 2,000 years of history. It began in Chang'an (present Xi'an, Shaanxi Province) in the east and stretched to Rome, Italy in the west. The total length of the Silk Road is more than 2,485 miles, over half of the width of China. >>>
